First Post! I'm cold...

Wow, so excited about blogging!  Hello, is anyone out there?

Well, I think class went great on Thursday. I talked waaaaaaaay too much, but that will be remedied (remedy) by the next class. :)  The first class was to introduce some of the vocabulary I will haphazardly be tossing around in class (yuck! vocabulary throw-up!)  Words like contextthesis, topic sentences, transition.... Ok, I'm scaring myself.

So, let's just chat about what I want you to dream about:
1. Topic sentence!
2. Explanation!
3. Support!
4. Explanation!
5. Transition or conclusion!

That's right... I want you to say it in your sleep!  Whisper it to yourself while you are eating...

Ok, Mrs. Benson is officially weird. When did I get this way?? I've only been teaching 5 years... :0  Oh, well.

On to more exciting things... my car has been sliding all OVER the place.  Are you driving in America?  Can you believe this weather??? I haven't felt this cold since I was in Beijing in January. BIG. MISTAKE. What was I thinking?? Well, I was there to take a native English speaker test. In China. I know, my life is weird. So there I was, with four other English speakers in a tiny room in  Beijing with a Chinese proctor telling us good morning ("Zao sheng hao").  It was the first time I flew domestic in another country. (I flew from one Chinese city to another Chinese city. )

ANYWAY, what I'm trying to say is, I'm SUPER cold. Do you wanna know a secret? Long underwear!  It's tight-fitting clothes you wear under your regular clothes that keep you warm! That's my little secret to share with you. :)

Foreign Women's Rocking Fashion!

OK, let's be honest, this multiple-posting thing isn't going to happen often, but I just HAD to respond to our conversation in class about Saudi fashion....or basically any country's fashion that's not American. Because, let's be honest, American fashion stops as baggy sweatpants and a sweatshirt. (Can you tell I have only seen college students for a while?)  No, no, no. We must look elsewhere for fashion. I found this interview online while I searched Google for "Saudi Fashion."  On al-shorfa.com, there is an interview with Hanan al-Faisal (that's right, I had to copy-and-paste that name--don't judge me) and found she is ROCKING the fashion industry. Let's look at a picture, shall we?

Holy shamoly!  The woman's a diva! Love the colors going on here (even though they are mostly to be found behind her). Let's check out another I love.

Oh my GOSH. More proof that Saudi women have really stepped up their game. This is from an article about the first ever fashion show that just took place in Jeddah. Sorry, no men were allowed:  " The Nafisat Shams Al Biqa' Academy organized and held the fashion show in Jeddah, where designers vied for a first place prize of 100,000 SAR (about $27,000)." That's a nice chunk of change to put in your pocket!  I wouldn't mind winning 27 grand at a fashion show... *dreaming*... This woman just looks so classy. Like I said in class, people, I need to step it up. :(  Is it the jilbab (head-wrap)?  I don't know if I could pull it off (look good in it). Oh, well. Nice work, Saudi women!

What do my other ladies think? Ana?  Daniela? Sherry?  Everybody. What do you think?
